Litzi Lemberg
(Physiotherapist & Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner)

Litzi graduated from Physiotherapy in 1960, she worked for a number of years in the hospital system and then went on to work in private practice. The team at this practice treated the Olympic swimming team which included athletes such as Betty Cuthbert, and Jon Konrads. Her skills and experience grew and so did her confidence, she set up her own practice at Kings Cross, which she subsequently sold to a colleague.

After time off raising children she re-entered her profession in 1979 and began working with Ralph Barker in private practice “His outlook on treating patients was much wider than heat, massage and mobilising. He was also interested in Osteopathy and open to many new ideas regarding movement. Here is where I heard the name Feldenkrais Method for the first time”.

Litzi studied the Feldenkrais Method and in 1987 embarked on becoming a fully fledged practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method. “I learned more about my body and myself in that time than ever before and the positive response I got as I taught what I knew urged me on to further learning of this method of teaching movement.”

Meanwhile she used her new found knowledge together in conjunction with her Physiotherapy skills with remarkable success. She became a community Physiotherapist and subsequently became Head of the Geriatic Rehabilitation Unit at Eversleigh Hospital in Petersham.

In 1992, when the unit closed she began working as a Physiotherapist/Feldenkrais practitioner in a private practice in Leichhardt and began using the Feldenkrais Method more and more.

A year later she began to hold weekly ‘Awareness Through Movement’ Feldenkrais classes at Bondi Junction, with a colleague Colin Gin, which they still run to this day.

She met Professor Milton Cohen who ran the Arthritis and Pain Research Clinic at St. Vincent’s Hospital. Professor Cohen was a firm believer in ‘The Feldenkrais Method’ as a gentle no-invasive way of helping people with chronic pain. He was looking for a practitioner to join his clinic and so Litzi did.

She worked for the next 11 years in a most fortunate position of getting invaluable clinical practice with a wide variety of people and conditions from all over Sydney and the country.

When that practice closed 2 years ago (to make way for a cancer research clinic) Litzi came to work in most congenial surrounds at Sydney Essential Health.
